Buying A Brompton Folding Bike?

August 10th, 2009 by admin · No Comments

With so many various models and types of folding bikes available, people sometimes ask me why
I chose the Brompton Folding Bike…………….

Here are my reasons for my decision:

1. They are a design classic: On a first glance, you would think that the modern Bromptons have not changed since their first explosion on to the market around 1976, but, the folks at Brompton have done an exceptional job at maintaining the integrity of the classical design, while improving virtually every component with lighter, stronger and more effective components. Result: A great looking bike with first class components.

2. Very easy/quick to fold and probably the smallest folder around:
I need a folding bike that will fold fast, especially in the mornings when dashing to catch my train or bus. After some practice, you should be able to fold a Brompton cycle in under 15 sec. They also fold small, which is a must so i can store it under my desk at work, fit nicely in my boot when going on camping trips, take with me on business trips and also not clutter up my London flat.

3. Light: Continual improvements in parts and design have meant that folding bikes in general are getting lighter and lighter. Brompton offer superlightweight titanium frames which means that virtually anyone is able to carry them around with ease. Brompton also design their own lightweight multispeed hub gears as other manufacuterers produce a heavier, more complex variety. Result: A bike that can handle almost any terrain, but is light and easy to ride.

4. Each Brompton Folding Bike is hand made:
This ensures that quality remains a major focus for the crew at Brompton, and while there are various folding bikes emerging from various countries, few if any spend as much time on ensuring each part of the bike is optimised for performance and simplicity. It is no wonder Brompton owners around the world praise their prized posessions.

5. Very effective bike luggage systems available: Brompton Folding Bikes offer fantastic luggage systems which come in handy when an extra load is neccessary. I use this feature to carry my weekly shopping or load in extra supplies on my longer country expeditions.

6. Fun: Riding a Brompton bike is also fun. Aside from all the many practical reasons
why i think a Brompton folding bike is a good investment, they are a joy to ride. Many owners of the bike have reported being stopped in public by curious pedistrians. You also get to really experience new locations and do not have to trudge around on foot or rely on public transport…… ahhhh, freedom.

So those are my main reasons of many for deciding on the Brompton Folding Bike. I bought mine online at Evans Cycles and found there service to be excellent. If you are thinking of buying a folding bike, be sure to check out Evan’s Cycles price match promise.

A Brompton Folding Bike may cost a little more than some other makes and models, but in my opinion it will be money well worth spending.
